Marketing for Romance Writers Books Hooks

It's Wednesday and I'm glad to be participating in the new Marketing for Romance Writers Books Hooks mini hop! (see linky list below) The deal is to post 6-8 sentences from your novel. This time I'm offering a bit of The Witchy Wolf and the Wendigo (book1 in the saga) ~ A story about an ancient shaman in a modern world, inspired by history and a very creepy urban legend. Follow the links below to a free chapter sampling and the local legend that inspired me to write it.

Setting up the scene: Ash watches over his wife's burial mound. Today he finds her grave desecrated. Left with nothing and without purpose, this immortal shaman will decide he has no reason to live.

My 8:

His throat tightened as he walked amongst the tables and pails. A small bone caught his eye and he bent to pick it up. He stared a long while, seeing but not seeing the hand it belonged to so long ago. It was his task to watch over this resting place, and his task alone. Coming here later than usual today, there was nothing he could do to stop the white man’s destruction. His eyes filled with tears as his fist closed around the finger bone. Slumping to the ground, he sobbed in anguished sorrow.
