It's Sunday and time for the  Sneak Peek Sunday mini hop! The deal is to post 6 paragraphs from a writing project, published or unpublished. This week I'm offering another bit from my soon-to-be released love story ~ The Changeling

Setting the scene: Lenox the 11th Earl of Pendry is en route to his great uncle's estate in Scotland to oversee operations after the elder's passing. At an inn he spies a beautiful young midwife and it's love at first sight. It's far more than that, actually.


My Six:
I had no time to ask what he meant by that, for his freckle-faced daughter came down the stairs and said, “Papa, Mam’s askin’ fer ye. She says Gran’s worrit ye forgot to count wee Duncan’s fingers an’ toes. But I did t’ be sure Papa. They’re all there. All o’ them.”

MacPhee laughed and tossed his glass back. He wheezed, “O’course they are my darlin’ girl! Tha’ just one o’ yer gran’s auld Highland Faery stories. An’ this is no’ th’ Highlands. Come here lassie. Watch th’ door an’ call me doon if ye need me.”

A moment later, I had the opportunity to ask the girl an important question. “Penny?”

“Aye, sir?”

“The pretty lady that helped bring your brother into the world, do you know her name?”

“Aye, I do sir. Her name is Janet Roxburgh.” Penny looked around, and then to me, whispered, “My gran says Janet’s a true witch.”
