Sneak Peek Sunday!

It's Sunday and time for the  Sneak Peek Sunday mini hop! The deal is to post 6 paragraphs from a writing project, published or unpublished. This week I'm offering another bit from my soon-to-be released romance ~ The Changeling.

Setting the scene: 
At this point in the story, a friend brings news of a Fae child stolen five years before.

My Six:

Orlaith turned to the rasping whisper that came from the ancient oak and cautiously drew closer. She was horrified to see her dear friend bruised and battered, his shirtfront red with blood. She hurried to his side. “Lord of All, Eppa, what has happened to you?”

“The Queen sent her man to follow me. When I realized it, it was too late, there was nothing to do but compel him to silence.”

Her friend’s beautiful eyes glistened with emotion. Eppa was a learned man, a student of Danu. Committing such violence would have wounded his soul. His admission suddenly sinking in, her eyes widened. Dare she hope? She asked, “Silenced…Are you saying you’ve found my son?”

He gave her a weary smile. “I have. He’s a fine lad. The image of his father, but there’s a bit of your grandfather in him too. The silver in his eyes. I noticed that right off. And he’s dark like John.”

Orlaith’s voice choked when she ventured, “Then- then he’s well cared for and loved?”

“He is. Knowing your sister, I can’t imagine how he came to be in a fine household. But it’s obvious to me he’s being raised as the prince he is. As a true son in the place the humans call Pendry.”
