Sneak Peek Sunday

It's Sunday, I'm participating in the Sneak Peek Sunday mini hop! The deal is to post 6 paragraphs from a writing project, published or unpublished. This time I'm offering another bit from my newest ~ Enchanted Skye.

Setting the scene: In a comedy of errors, Jenna managed to get herself locked in Alex's room. His sister Bea sends up dinner through the window and along with it a bottle of fine scotch. Jenna is furious and slams a glass full. Alex senses she's lashing out at him from stress. Neither know her earlier tears have unleashed an ancient charm upon him. The following is a turning point on the whole unpleasant day.

My Six:

The genuine laugh transformed her and his heart flipped over in his chest from seeing it. Lovely even in her pique, the smiling Jenna was radiant. Alex was completely smitten. For the past hour and a half, all words sent in his direction, sparse as they were, had been angry ones, but her small bit of laughter gave Alex hope that this was at heart a good-natured woman rather than a scold. The more he thought, he had to concede it was his slow perusal of her naked curves that set her off like an irate fishwife. Of course she’d be taken aback, as any woman might.

He hid his frown, chalking up his lapse in manners to having been at sea too long this time. He did believe, however, that foolish as that had been, her scorn didn’t fit the crime. A thought hit him then as if she’d voiced herself. She missed her grandmother. All of this anger was her grief speaking. She’d lashed out at him for more than his thoughtless behavior. She’d lashed out at him because he was there. Sensing she needed to talk, he asked, “Your accent sounds American, is this so?”

Obviously more than a little tipsy, Jenna looked around the room to find a place to sit. Seeing only the bed, she slid to the floor. “Yes. I’m from Chicago.”

He took a seat on the floor across from her with his back to the bedpost. “Ah, I see. So are you here on vacation then?”

Drawing her knees to her chin, she hugged her legs and shook her head. “No, not a vacation.”

Alex forgot how to breathe and his erection was returning in full. Obviously under the influence of abundant scotch, she’d forgotten she wasn’t wearing panties. His next words came out thicker than usual, “Ye look troubled, Jenna. Ye can talk about it if ye like…”

 Here's the story
