Tantalizing Tuesday!

It's Tuesday and I'm taking part in Tantalizing Tuesday again. I'm having fun with it. The idea is to take a personal picture prompt and write a 200 word teaser for it.

 


<<  An evocative one that just begged for a teensy bit of Photoshop tweaking. I call it The Restless Wife*

This restlessness always came on her when the seasons changed and stirred an overwhelming urge to clean. To her, spring cleaning was more than housework. It was introspection. Yes, Steve was a loving husband who gave her a life she’d never envisioned for herself, but he didn’t understand the need to put one’s life in order. It was necessary to purge their home of things they didn’t use and never would. Life got so cluttered otherwise. Waiting for him to finish his breakfast, she glanced impatiently at the clock.

Later, at the door, he said, “If the haul is good, it’ll be herring for supper. Have a nice day, honey.”

Anxious to begin her housework the moment he left for the docks, it was all she could do to keep from pushing him out the door. She smiled. “You too.”

She happily cleaned all day, saving the cluttered bedroom closet for last. Determining Steve’s unused bowling ball had to go, she unzipped the bag and gasped to find what he’d concealed inside. She penned her husband a short goodbye note then quickly stripped naked. Gathering her spotted skin, she walked out the door to return to the vast uncluttered sea.

*This story is written around the ancient legend of Selkies -- those beings that live in the sea as seal-type creatures, and on land as human when they take off their spotted skins. The legend says if a man finds the skin and hides it away, the transformed Selkie would marry him and make a perfect wife, even giving him children. But...if one day she finds the hidden skin, she'll leave him and the children without looking back. If you like Selkies, my Enchanted Skye was inspired by a very real Scottish family who' has declared themselves Selkie for generations.

Love Grows Where Rosemary Goes

He boxed the artifacts of a lifetime: her second-grade penmanship ribbon, a tassel from her high school graduation, a tiny paper parasol – all proof that his wife had once lived. Spying polaroid pictures of their trip to Hawaii, his heart gripped. He lovingly touched a fingertip to Rosemary's smiling face before setting them aside. The rest he piled by the door for the morning’s charity pickup. Grabbing another trash bag for the bathroom, he cleared cabinets and drawers filled with toiletries never to be used again. Sunlight glinting on her comb drew his eye to the russet strands tangled in the teeth. She’d had amazing lustrous hair. It grew so fast between trims, she once joked that it would grow even if she planted it in the ground. Unable to bear the thought of throwing the strands away, he took them to the garden and buried them between her roses and lilies. Completely drained of emotion, he took himself to bed. Waking in the night to a heavy scent of damp earth in the room, he found her standing beside the bed naked, soil-dusted and smiling. Miraculously, she was newly regrown and very much alive. Together they wept with joy.

Tantalizing Tuesday

It's Tuesday and I'm taking part in Tantalizing Tuesday again. I had fun last week. The idea is to take a personal picture prompt write a 200 word teaser for it.

I give you Moonlight Serenade.

Rissa followed the melody and found Liam before the baby grand piano.

Sensing her, his fingers paused a moment. “Here I am contemplating that full shimmering orb and a moonbeam comes to life beside me.” 

“I didn’t know you played.” 

“Haven’t in years, I’m very rusty. I was invited to remember by this light falling across the keys.” He flexed his fingers in the glow. “Gorgeous moon, isn’t it?”

She followed his gaze out the window. “Breathtaking.” 

Come, I’ll play you a song made of moonlight.” At her nod, he played a little more of the same piece.

“Moonlight Sonata?” 

 He smiled that she knew. “I was inspired. Come, my Euterpe.” 

“Euterpe…?” 

“Euterpe is the muse of pleasure and music. You bring me pleasure and make my heart sing.”

She sat on the piano facing him, her feet softly tinkling several keys. He caressed his moonlit muse’s bare legs before playing Debussy’s Clair de Lune in lyrical tribute. Before long he transitioned into complicated rhythms. The vibration danced over and through her – softly adagio, increasing tempo to mezzo, and on to allegro. And when her body rose in complete harmony, he took her hand. Their sensual symphony had just begun.

I give you The Taste.

Luc set the covered tray before her. Curious, Angelique met his eyes. “What dessert did you learn today?” 

Like a magician, he produced a dish of chocolate sauce and a spoon. He drizzled a thick, delicious line on his finger, and said, “Ganache. Open, little bird.” Opening his own mouth in illustration, he fed her before withdrawing his finger slowly.  

“Mmm, Luc it's delicious.” Luc had been at the Cordon Bleu all day with his classes. His sauces were definitely improving.

“I thought you’d like this one.” He licked his knuckle where she’d missed. Smiling now, he coated his finger again. “More for you.” 

She opened her mouth and sucked it clean. 

He kissed the chocolate from her lips, his tongue sweeping his own where it smeared. “Mmm, this does taste good. But it’s much better warmed, you know.” 

She did know. With a teasing grin, she bared her shoulder. He carefully drew a drippy line there. Of course, the chocolate running past her collarbone required chasing with his tongue. The act left a delightful shiver behind.

His warm breath stippling her with gooseflesh, he murmured against her skin, “Oh yes... much better warm. More?"

She nodded. “Mmm much more.”

Tantalizing Tuesday!

I'm trying something new today called Tantalizing Tuesday. I just discovered the meme yesterday, so I hope I'm doing this right. The idea is to take a personal picture prompt write a 200 word teaser for it. Alrighty then...I give you Catch of the Day.

Ben Chalmers was born to be a fisherman. His father and grandfather and every Chalmer since Maryland became a colony fished the blue-green waters beyond the Chesapeake Bay. Lately, the nets hauled very little, a few lobsters, some eel. Not much to make a living by. But he had no one to care for but himself.
Taking off his shirt in the steamy humidity, he mopped his sweaty brow. Suddenly, the boat rocked wildly. The boom bowed with the catch. Smiling at the thought of a full net, he recalled his grandfather’s tale of the record shad haul. Several of those meaty fish were longer than two feet. By the fight, his net must be filled with shad.

He reeled the net in, but stopped horrified. There, covered in sea weed and netting, a naked and unconscious woman lay tangled. He begged her, "Please be alive." 

Not wanting to injure her further, he lowered the net into the water and dove in to free her. Her eyes fluttered. She was alive. With one arm around her, he swam to his boat. Only then did he realize he’d caught himself a mermaid. Her eyes opened. The smile she gave him, breathtaking.
